Autographs Although I'm not an autograph hound I do love running into that special person, now and then, that takes time to write me a personal note or sign their book. Okay, I have had a little bit of luck with this as many activists, authors, environmentalists and scientists have appeared with me on my radio show... Anyway, just click on any of the names, below, to see for yourself!

• Abbey, Edward on the inside title page to Dave Foreman's book, EcoDefense - because I didn't have an Abbey book with me, at the time, and the two were good friends anyway. Abbey, in the signing note, also mentions my work with Wilderness Defense! at the time. Dave Foreman signed the same page 11 months later, in 1989, chuckling at Abbey having signed his book...
• Ball, Jim on the inside title page to his book, Professionalism is for Everyone Five Keys to Being a True Professional. I was in Florida, for management training in 2006, when I first heard Jim speak.
• Beasley, Conger Jr. on the inside title page to his book, Sundancers and River Demons Essays on Landscape and Ritual.
• Bugliosi, Vincent on the title page to his latest book, The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder. This was after a radio interview I recorded with him that was later broadcast on 09-11-2008...
• Connors, Philip on the title page to his first book, Fire Season (Field Notes from a Wilderness Lookout). This was after a radio interview I recorded with him that was later broadcast on 05-02-2011...
• Firor, John and Judith E. Jacobsen after my with them on February 26, 2003 for KGNU's "Live at the Penny Lane Coffee House" show.

• Folsom, Gill on the inside title page to his book, Colorado Gampgrounds - (The 100 Best and All the Rest).
• Foreman, Dave on the inside title page to his book, EcoDefense - (Edward Abbey had signed the same page, earlier, as I didn't have an Abbey book with me and they were close friends who didn't seem to mind either way!).

• Frost, Tom on the lower right-hand side of the cover to Basic Rockcraft by Royal Robbins. Tom and Royal were at a small lecture at Neptunre Mountaineering (Boulder) on June 15, 1993. Tom signed the cover of Royal's book while Royal autographed the inside cover page for me. The books's cover photo is of Tom Frost leading Roof Pitch on Salathe Wall...
• Gaskill, Gudy on the inside title page to her book, Peaceful Canyon Golden River (A Photographic Journey Through Fabled Glen Canyon) - She wrote, "To Roger - For all of the dedication & volunteerism to my favorite organization - the CMC. Thanks so much, you are the right person for that. Gudy Gaskill" [Ed. note: Without exaggeration, the Colorado Trail (486 miles between Denver and Durango) would not be in existence had it not been for Gudy starting and spearheading the project. They often say that Gudy "IS" the Colorado Trail! In addition to being the Colorado Mountain Club's first female president (back in 1974), Gudy was in charge of countless outings, trail projects, committees, and everything else related to mountaineering and the outdoors!]
• Goodman, Amy on the inside title page to her book, The Exception to the Rulers - She wrote, "We meet again" because I had been at a small meeting and training session with her at KGNU a few years earlier...
• Gould, Stephen Jay - What an honor! Dr. Gould was one of the world's preeminent palentologists (and evolutionary biologist) until his premature passing, at age 60, in 2002. Back in late 1990 I wrote him a letter (there was almost no email at that time...) and this great scientist took time out of his busy schedule to note only write me a personal note but to include an article related to my question as well (I had written asking his opinion about the [then] current rate of human induced extinctions. Dr. Gould has been deeply missed by many...
• Hammond, Scott C. - Dr. Hammond sent me this kind note after our time on the air together at KGNU during the fall of 2013.
• Heise, Sandy on the title page of her book, Colorado Waterfall Hikes.
• Hillary, Sir Edmund signed my flyer at Boulder High School on November 4, 1994. Even at that stage of his life he was tall and impressive but speaking softly to me as we exchanged a few words of greeting to each other. Surprising, to me at the time, was that his speech to the crowd was mostly about his Arctic travels and charity work - it was obvious he was reluctant to spend a lot of time talking about Mt. Everest...
• Isay, Dave on the inside title page to his book, Listening is an Act of Love (A celebration of American Life From the StoryCorps Project)
• Kopischka, Layne in a note about my order for his book, Cracks Unlimited (A Climbing Guide to Vedauwoo. Okay, his note really wasn't meant to be an autograph by I always enjoyed climbing at Vedawuoo and his book was very helpful! The note is somewhat faded and difficult to scan but you get the idea. Click Here for the cover of his book - kind of interesting because it appears there wasn't enough room to write the complete spelling of "Unlimited" across the cover!
• Logan, Nick on the second inside page (with the Schmhmidkunz quote) to his and Dale Atkins' book, The Snowy Torrents (Avalanche Accidents in the United States 1980 -86). I met Nick at a CMC avalanche workshop in January, 1997.
• McWilliams, Joan on the inside cover to The PeaceFinder (Riley McFee's Quest for World Peace). I interviewed Joan at KGNU on January 05, 2007.
• Mitchell, Stacy on the inside cover to Big-Box Swindle (The True Cost of Mega-Retailers and the Fight for America's Independent Businesses). I had the pleasure of recording an interview with Stacy, at KGNU, on November 13, 2006.
• Nervig, Sandy and Rick Machle on the inside cover page to their book, Ester's Easter Tale (How the Easter Bunny Came to Be). I worked with Sandy for a few years on Prairie DOg and environmental issues during the first decade of the second millenium.
• Purdy, Penelope, author of the CMC pocket guide, Best Hikes Buena Vista and Salida - As an employee of the CMC I regularly shipped her book out for internet purchases so it was a great surprise to meet her at the Comanche/Venable trailhead in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains as she was reseraching her latest book!

• Roach, Gerry on the inside title page to his book, Transcendent Summits (One Climber's Route to Self-Discovery) - I've had the pleasure of running into Gerry a few times over the years in person, via email, and on social media - even in his early 70s, when we were photographed together, he was an extremely busy guy!
• Roberts, David on the inside title page to his book, On the Ridge Between Life and Death (A Climbing Life Reexamined) - After an intense interview with me at KGNU on 09-21-2006. He wrote, "For Roger - Thanks for a great interview - David Sept. 2005"
• Robbins, Royal on the inside cover page to his book Basic Rockcraft. Royal and Tom Frost (Tom's photo, climbing the Salathe Wall, is on the cover of Royal's book) were at a small lecture at Neptunre Mountaineering (Boulder) on June 15, 1993. Tom signed the cover of Royal's book while Royal autographed the inside cover page for me. At the time, Royal and I were talking about family so in with his autograh he wrote, "For Roger - Two great things: 1 Climbing 2 A family that stays together Forever! Royal Robbins"

• Searfoss, Glenn on the inside title page to his book, Skulls and Bones - A guide to the skeletal structures and behavior of North American mammals.
• Schneider, Richard J. on the inside cover page to his book Water (A Vic Bengston Investigation) - after his radio interview with me on 11-23-2012.
• Shesso, Renna on the inside cover page to her book Math for Mystics (From the Fibonacci Sequence to Luna's Labyrinth to the Golden Section and Other Secrets of Sacred Geometry) - after her radio interview with me on 11-13-2008.
• Slobodchikoff, Dr. C.N. on the title page to his latest book, Prairie Dogs - Communications and Community in an Animal Society. This was from our time together for a Prairie Dog Day interview at KGNU on February 02, 2009
• Solheim, Valerie, PhD, DD on the title page to her book, The Beehive Effect, Ancient Rites Quantum Principles. This was from our time together for an interview about beekeeping at KGNU on March 08, 2013
• Winne, Mark - author of Closing the Food Gap (Resetting the Table in the Land of Plenty), was a guest on my radio show March 28, 2008
• Wodening, Jane on the inside title page to her book, Mountain Woman Tales - Signed at a Colorado QRP Club meeting in Aurora, Colorado on September 10, 1994. (She later mentioned me in her 2009 book, Living Up There (about the time I skied up, with 50 pounds of tools, to assist with her mountain cabin's broken stove), pp 199 - 201.

I've been very lucky, over my long life, to have met, interviewed, and even recreated with some very interesting people over the years! Usually the interviews took place for my work at radio station KGNU where I had the opportunity for a couple hundred on-air "chats" with all kinds of environmentalists, politicians, government officials, and activists engaged in charitable/NGO work around the world - all more than willing to entertain my requests for an autograph! Granted, being a radio interviewer affords me more opportunity than most in meeting different people. But, I've also run into dozens and dozens of unique individuals through my environmental work, mountaineering, and world travel. So, it is here on this page that I've been able to assemble some of the signatures from people I admire or find interesting. Also, if you look around my entire website you'll find pictures and email quotes from the hundreds of others that were equally interesting but didn't happen to have a book to sign for me at the time of our encounter! - Roger J.
