I created this little text file in May, 2004, after learning what Rush Limbaugh thought of the torture of Iraqi prisoners. I think it was Tuesday, May 4th, when I, personally, tuned into the Rush Limbaugh radio show while driving in my car north of Denver. I couldn't believe what I was hearing - Rush Limbaugh was actually justifying the torture of Iraqi prisoners by U.S. Military personnel and U.S. contractors!!! Unfortunately I was driving so I had no opportunity to write down what he said, tape him, or call into his show by cell phone (The Rush Limbaugh Show is run three hours late, in Denver, so it's not possible to call-in and comment on anything...). Anyway, to make sure I actually heard what I thought I heard, I did an Internet search, a few days later, to see if anyone else heard Rush attempting to justify the torture of Iraqi prisoners. Here are some quotes, from Rush Limbaugh, that I found on the Internet concerning what he believes to be the acceptable torture of prisoners. And, what's more amazing, is on May 10th and 12th I heard Rush on, again, still defending his belief that there wasn't much to the torture story!! "I'm talking about people having a good time, these people [CIA agents and MPs at the Abu Ghraib the prison], you ever heard of emotional release? You heard of need to blow some steam off?" Limbaugh asked a caller. "This is no different than what happens at the Skull and Bones initiation and we're going to ruin people's lives over it and we're going to hamper our military effort, and then we are going to really hammer them because they had a good time." - When a caller suggested the treatment of these Iraqi prisoners was similar to a college hazing, Rush Limbaugh couldn't agree more: "Exactly. Exactly my point! This is no different than what happens at the skull and bones initiation and we're going to ruin people's lives over it and we're going to hamper our military effort, and then we are going to really hammer them because they had a good time. You know, these people are being fired at every day. I'm talking about people having a good time, these people, you ever heard of emotional release? You of heard of need to blow some steam off?" Normally, I wouldn't care what a talk-show host had to say about anything. However, in the case of Rush Limbaugh, his views and broadcasts are not only heard by over 20 million Americans, but are supported by the Bush administration and most of the conservative elite who run our country. What I'm saying is that no matter what the Bush administration says, the Republican Party says, or even what a talk-show host as popular as Rush Limbaugh says, THE TORTURE OF PRISONERS IS WRONG. It's that simple - THE TORTURE OF PRISONERS IS WRONG! The torture of prisoners, any prisoners, is Wrong and you can quote me on that! Roger J. Wendell Golden, Colorado http://www.rogerwendell.com
